Sustainable Planning Policy and Issues

Short  description of the activity and how it meets the CM criteria, what will be learned and why is this important to planners (up to 300 words)

The lecture by Marcel Acosta will provide an in depth look into the sustainable planning policies and issues currently taking place in the city of Washington D.C.  These policies will include local, state and federal mandates that structure the planning decision making process.   Some specific topics will include President Obama’s Sustainability for Federal Agencies Executive Order and the implementation of “Eco-Districts”.   The presentation will be approximately 45 minutes and include an additional 20 to 30 minutes of discussion.

This event is appropriate for CM credits due to the pertinent nature of sustainable planning policies and issues along with the expertise of our keynote speaker. Marcel Acosta has over 20 years of experience and knowledge in multiple areas of the urban and regional planning profession. This professional background allows him to give both a quality presentation of this information and lead a discussion with the professional members of the audience.  This will be a unique opportunity to get an overview of the inner planning policies mechanisms of both a large metropolitan city and our nation’s capital.
